Special care is given to preserve the rare quality of JM rums which is simply derived from the natural elements that make up the terroir of northern Martinique. Rhum JM receives international fame because their rums are grown and matured, not manufactured. Each barrel is carefully selected to bring specific characters to the rum. Before being used, the barrels are first charred by igniting high-proof rum inside the barrel. After the char has been scraped, new oak tannins are exposed, which deliver the barrel’s character and the rich color. JM Vintage 2001 was put into barrels in July 2001 for 10 long years in 200 liter barrels.
This cask strength rhum has a rich amber color, with a nutty, herbal, and chocolate nose, with rich spice, silky notes, creaminess, and a velvety long and lingering finish. This is an aged rhum that you sit back and sip at the end of a great day.Every year, due to heat and humidity, the barrels lose a large quantity of rum that evaporates in the air: the angels share. To compensate this, the cellar master tops off the barrels with rum from the same vintage – 2001 – to preserve the specific character of each respective vintage. JM’s cellars are the only ones in Martinique to be air conditioned to the ideal ageing temperature. JM extra old rum Vintage 2001 was bottled on the 26th of April 2011.
